¿Te gustan las historias de terror? Sólo necesitas un ratito muy corto para leer esta historia de miedo en inglés con la que aprenderás vocabulario nuevo. Esta lectura corta es perfecta para alumnos con nivel intermedio de inglés. Antes de empezar, te proponemos este ejercicio con vocabulario que aparece en el texto en inglés a continuación. Trata de unir cada palabra con su significado y pasa a la lectura.
Esta lectura está inspirada en los libros Goosebumps (conocida en España como pesadillas). Si quieres más recomendaciones de libros en inglés sobre varios temas, aquí tienes mi lista favorita.
| 1. Cursed | A. A broad smile that often expresses amusement, happiness, or satisfaction. It typically involves showing one’s teeth. |
| 2. Grin | B. To have been subjected to a supernatural spell or a curse, often believed to bring bad luck or misfortune. It can also refer to using offensive or profane language. |
| 3. Faint | C. A large, heavy hammer with a long handle, typically used for breaking, demolishing, or driving in heavy objects like nails or stakes |
| 4. Smirk | D. To lose consciousness or become unconscious temporarily, often due to a lack of oxygen or a sudden emotional response. It can also mean something that is barely perceptible or difficult to see, hear, or understand. |
| 5. Sledgehammer | E. A smug, conceited, or self-satisfied smile or expression that may suggest arrogance or contempt. |

Lectura corta en inglés
The Haunted Mirror
Timothy had always been fascinated by the old, ornate mirror in his grandmother’s attic. It was said to be cursed, but he didn’t believe in such nonsense. One evening, while exploring the attic alone, he couldn’t resist looking into the mirror.
Suddenly, a cold wind swept through the room, and Timothy’s reflection changed. He saw a sinister version of himself with bloodshot eyes and a menacing grin. Terrified, he stumbled back and fell, but when he looked up, his reflection was back to normal.
Doubting his sanity, Timothy decided to leave the attic. As he descended the creaky stairs, he heard a faint whisper behind him. It was the mirror, calling his name. He ignored it and rushed downstairs.
That night, as he lay in bed, Timothy couldn’t shake the feeling of being watched. He glanced at the mirror across the room and saw his reflection smirk. In a panic, he covered the mirror with a sheet and tried to sleep.
The next morning, he awoke to find the sheet on the floor, and the mirror revealed a grotesque version of himself. This time, it wasn’t just his reflection. The evil doppelgänger stepped out of the mirror and reached for him.
Timothy screamed and ran from the room, but the sinister twin chased him through the house. Desperate, he called his grandmother, who arrived just in time with a sledgehammer. With a mighty swing, she shattered the cursed mirror, banishing the evil presence.
As the shards of glass fell to the floor, Timothy realized the mirror’s curse was real. He had narrowly escaped a horrifying fate, forever haunted by the mirror’s malevolent twin.
The attic was sealed, and Timothy never ventured near it again, but he couldn’t forget the chilling smile that had almost claimed his soul.
